Biography:


Ruth Tatter received a BA in Studio Art from Colorado College in Colorado Springs,CO, and an MA in Art History from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.

She taught art history at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs CO, UNM El Rito Campus, Northern NM Community College, Espanola NM and the University of New Mexico, Los Alamos, NM.

Her work has been in shows at Jack Dennis Gallery, Jackson, WY, Santa Fe Ambiance, Boulder, CO, Historic Santa Fe Foundation, Santa Fe, NM, Fuller Lodge, Los Alamos, NM Masterworks of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM and for ten years at Marigold Arts, Santa Fe NM.

Statement:

Some subjects are never exhausted. If you asked five artists to paint the same scene, you would get five different perspectives. As the director Anthony Minghella said, "What is art for but to nudge our perspective a little." We each focus on different details. I believe that if you become familiar with even a part of a place or object, its details, you have in some way touched the whole which is an expansion of its smallest connections.


I feel privileged to have people see my paintings and hopefully feel that little "nudge of perspective." In painting these pictures I not only had the pleasure of studying these wonderful creatures and places but also of employing a large number of watercolor techniques. The backgrounds are washed, layered or lifted and the textures are sponged, spattered or created by various resists.
