Biography:

A native of New Mexico, Janice grew up with a reverence for nature and especially a love of our southwestern skies. Janice spent many hours with her father watching the clouds go by.  That along with the fact that her mother was an artist led her to the desire to communicate the beauty around her through art. With her first set of professional pastels given to her by her mother, she set out to do just that.

Painting the sky becomes a spiritual experience for her.  “I feel such a sense of liberation and endless possibilities. Our New Mexico skies give me the space to expand, to breathe. There is kind of a calming energy.” She believes that the “Joy is in the Journey".  “I hope my paintings help the viewer resonate with the places I have loved.”

Although best known for her pastel paintings, she also works in acrylic, oil and stained glass.

Recognized by her peers with signature status in Women Artists of the West, Pastel Society of New Mexico, Pastel Society of the West Coast, and the Pastel Society of Colorado.  She is an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.

Her paintings hang in governmental, corporate and personal collections nation wide.

Janice has a degree in education and taught art classes through the Karen Wray Gallery.
